vSSH App Reviews

Best I’ve found, except for copy & paste

Great terminal application, except for copy/paste. They really need to add unix-xterm like auto select / copy & paste. That is the ONLY thing missing. Please add it, or at least make it configurable so we can turn it on.

I find this app very good

it makes the same like Putty on MS windows and a little bit more, so it’s really good thing I mean

As good as SecureCRT for the most

I have been using this software a while now (between my macbooks) and have just emailed the developer to request a few features. I use SecureCRT on my work machine and as a MAC convert I would say for the features I need it is as good as for a fraction of the price. If we could open multiple servers in one go and a little more work on the UI (for folks that have hundreds of servers to connect to, often 10 or 20 in one go) then I would be a happy camper :-) Only issue I have found is in getting my ssh key to store - the app keeps saying the key is corrupt but I know the key works fine. I can use the work around of storing the username/password etc in the app.

Did not work for me

I got this so that I can connect to my Cisco lab as I study and prepar for Cisco tests. I was unable to get this program to work right at all. Every time I tried to look at the config I would only get 25 lines back. I never saw the whole configuration of the Cisco device. I found it toally useless and had to go get another program to use instead. Good thing was it was only $5.00. If it was more I would very unhappy.

Awesome App

This is the best app I’ve bought so far for the MAC. Surprised it’s so inexpensive. I use it to manage over 100 systems; including DataDomain, SANs, VMware hosts, etc. Would like the ability to synchronize with a local folder on the MAC (vs. iCloud or Dropbox), so as admins we can use our private cloud per corporate policy. Might already be possible, but I can’t figure it out. :-)

Promising, but has some showstoppers

I downloaded the “lite” version of the app because I needed something that would send some odd control characters to an SSH session that the OSX terminal program refused to do (Ctrl-Shift-R to a Cisco UCS system), and it worked well for this purpose. I bought the full version of the app just to make the nag messages go away, and was looking forward to possibly using this as a general replacement for the OSX terminal program that I manage with JellyFiSSH (an imperfect but mostly functional combination). I’m a very heavy SSH user (often with dozens of connections going), and I’m always looking for the best way to work. I’ve given up on vSSH after a day or two, as there are a few issues that simply kill its practicality for me: 1) Scrollback functionality becomes disabled after a session disconnects, and if you reconnect then your scrollback is lost. Sometimes I have to work over a flaky connection (or reboot a device), and losing the scrollback data is a major inconvenience. 2) Scrollback information that exceeds the width of the window is lost. If you get some output that exceeds the width of the terminal window, and then your resize the window so that you can read it…. it’s not there. I thought most terminal programs stopped having this problem back in the 1990s. 3) Session names in the tabs are truncated to the point where I often can’t tell which is which, and there is no “hover” capability to view the full name. Ideally the tab width should show the full name; I don’t really want to hover to find it. 4) Copy/Paste functionality via keyboard (Command-C / Command-V) is flaky. I haven’t analyzed this precisely enough to figure out exactly what is going on, but it was annoying me. These problems are deal-breakers for me, and so I’ve stopped using the program. There are a few other minor issues: 5) Can’t set terminal colors per-connection or per-group. Having a separate group setting for color-codes would make it perfect - I organize my connections by site, but I prefer to set my colors by device type. 6) Asking it to sync via Dropbox asks for my account info (which I’m not giving to an App), rather than just letting me choose a Dropbox folder. 7) If I have multiple tabs open in multiple windows, there is no convenient way to locate a specific session. The ideal here would be to allow the user to name each window, and then have pop-outs listing each session from the “Window” menu on the app menu bar (having a menu and / or search function in each window would be sweet as well). 8) Terminal session naming is a global setting - you can either let the host set the session name or you can lock it to your name. It would be better if this could be set per-connection. One thing I do like: TCP Keepalive support. Obviously this is not a thorough review as I only used the app for a few hours, but these notes may help some people decide whetehr or not it’s a good fit for them. Hopefully this will help the authors improve this program, as it does show potential for being a solid SSH terminal.

Trouble launching vSSH

It was working before …but all of a sudden as of last week it stopped working. When I click on vSSH icon, it displays a window with a plus sign, but it doesnt display any of my servers that were there in the profile. I tried deleting the app and re-install…same result. Additionally, I don’t think the launch of the application is “completing”, which means…when I click on the vSSH window, the Mac’s context menu bar doesn’t change to that of vSSH, it continues to display the previous apps menu…effectively meaning that , I’m not able select the vSSH window by clicking it…However, clicking on “x” button on window closes the app. I have Yosetmite 10.10.3 Will increase the rating once the issue is fixed.

Not working anymore

Until about a week ago, this was working flawlessly. Now it has stopped working. Running Yosemite 10.10.3 as well. Loved it before this stopped working...

Good but...

Bookmarks are still a mess and very buggy to make things even worse. Please address this! Still not a useful dropdown of bookmarks. I have hundreds of saved connections saved in 10 - 15 groups. The menu needs a hierarchy of the groups to be useful. iCloud syncing is broken. Just stops working after a while. Dropbox is better but when switching all bookmarks became a big mess. Seems to assign groups at random. It’s a big pain right now. Need a local save for bookmarks so that they can be synked manually in environements that can’t allow cloud storage (most enterprises). Especially since passwords are synced, huge security risk.

Key Forwarding Crashed the Application

Key forwarding crashing the application on Mac OS X Yosemite. Support is horrible there is no way to contact the develop. The contact us for gives an error or no message at all.

How can you not like this app?

It is a perfect ssh in simplcity and ability. I started with the Lite and then bought the app maybe 2 years ago. I use it every day. I’d buy it again! This is actually a really fine program.
